Folkrace for snowmobiles :-) The rules are a little different though, there are several drivers for each team, and they are allowed to make pit stops during the four 55 minute heats to change personnel and make running repairs. There is also a 5 minute break between heats, and positions are held from one heat to the next. The winning team at the end of all 4 heats is the one who has completed the most laps. The course got quite bumpy and cut up even early on, and you could really hear the bumps, creaks and groans from the snowmobiles as they landed. This was also an event for older snowmobiles, I think it was the usual 1985 cut off point in terms of machine and chassis age. Tried some different angles, and some lower shutter speeds for the motion pics. I do like the increased blur that gives, but I lost a lot of pics because the subject just wasn't in focus, which sort of defeats the point ... Oh and I broke a hugely unnecessary personal record today by taking a grand total of 995 pictures! Which would explain why there are so many photos here ... (112 to be exact)
This was a busy day for winter sports, with no less than 4 events on in northern Sweden that I am aware of, so in case you haven't had enough of old snowmobiles by now, don't forget to check Richard's pictures of the dragracing they had today in Skellefteå :-)
