Dragracing Piteå August 2008

This was the final competition of the season in Norrland and as usual not everything went according to plan ... I abandoned the Saturday due to the weather (they started at 14:00 instead of 11:00 thanks to the rain) and just went up for the Sunday. Many cars had fallen victim to mechanical ailments during the course of qualifiying so not everyone made it to the start of eliminations. Then there were the usual pauses for (minor) cleanups and plane landings, plus the spectacular, and frankly quite horrifying sight of one guy crashing his VW Beetle, bouncing and rolling sveral times. He was thankfully OK, just some bruises, but the car might never see a dragstrip again. Such is life in dragracing ... I also took the opportunity to test the latest purchase, a grey filter. This does not alter the colours, just reduces the amount of light that reaches the lens, allowing for slower shutter speeds in sunny weather, which I really could have done with during Motorweek .... however in the weaker autumn sun in Piteå it was more or less unnecessary, but at least I got the chance to test it.
