I've always wanted to travel to the USA, and finally this year I had the chance. I was only there for one week but managed to do quite a lot, and am already looking forward to the next trip!
For this first visit, I decided to stay in Orlando, Florida. At this time of year (November) the temperature is usually in the low to mid 20s, which doesn't hurt :-) Also, you are out of both the hurricane and rain seasons and there is still a lot of daylight (sun rise 07:30, sunset 18:30). I had a couple of slightly cooler, breezier days but nothing that really made me feel cold. However, the climate is quite humid so things did get a bit on the damp side once the sun had gone down, especially late at night.
I decided to stay somewhere cheap but reasonably central to the main attractions, which are actually mostly in a district south of downtown Orlando, called Kissimmee (the USA has at least as many bizarre town names as Australia!!). This was quite OK considering all I wanted to do at the hotel was sleep and eat breakfast, but I wouldn't recommend it for those wanting to get more out of their hotel and its surroundings, Highway 192 (where my hotel was located) is one long strip of hotels, eateries and shops - all very billboard, flashing lights and cut price gift shops. BTW, there are no roundabouts in the US, but as a result, U-turns are much more acceptable!
I've divided this section up into the different attractions I went to, so just click on an event to get to the relevant pics...
