Burkacup 2009 - Hillclimb Rusksele

The fourth event in this year's Burkacup was held at Kåtaberget Skislope near Rusksele (35 km from Lycksele). The idea here was to be first up the ski slope, or at least gather enough points from the 3 heats to make it to the final. Mild weather and original engines (remember all the snowmobiles here are at least 20 years old, many are 30 ...) conspired to prevent some people from reaching the goal line, but it seemed like everyone had a good time anyway. For me it was one of those days, I left later than planned, arrived later than planned (it was also further than I expected by about 20km) but worst of all, my faithful Pentax is now to all intents and purposes unusable, so I only got a few pics with that. Luckily I was able to borrow a Nikon D40X (big thanks to Marino for that!) with a Tamron 70-300 so I could continue, but I don't really feel like I got the best out of that setup, I should have taken more time to go through the menu settings etc, so this is not some of my better work :-) However I did like the speed of the Nikon (faster autofocus and pics per sec) and the fact I could get 5 RAW pics in a burst as opposed to the 3 I am limited to now. So we'll see what happens when the Pentax is back from repair, Cyberphoto have some nice packages with the D90 at the moment :-) Oh and to top it all off, I lost a memory card somewhere along the line as well ... such is life :-)
NB : pics 1-68 are taken with the Nikon, and 69-90 are with the Pentax. The prize giving is shown in pics 61-68, things got in the wrong order due to 2 different cameras and 4 different directories on 2 memory cards ...
NB 2 : there was some moped ice racing in Överboda on the same day, so have a look at Mat's pictures & film to see what went on.
